Jahova
Ok so I built my dad a computer, and it keeps coming up with a bios error, and I believe it is related to the graphics card... the main reason I believe that is because the system rating says the card is at 3.3 when it should be at 4.9... Would that be caused by a too low of a PSU? I have all the correct drivers, but I'm not 100% what is causing it, nothing is out on it. Angelz
Exactly what does the error say? What graphics card is it?What is the the make and watts of the PSU?
Jahova
The error just tells me to uninstall any new devices, and its a 450 watt. The graphics card is a 9400gt, and the processor is an amd phenom 64 quadcore. I'm pretty sure its the psu though haha
Goofy
how much ram are you using? with Vista if you add more then 2 gigs of ram you have to adjust the BIOS or your system just hangs or crashes before the start up screen
Jahova
WIndwows 7 with 2 gig 6400 , 64 bit. We had it running well before the graphics card was put in, but after that it ran for 4 hours then crashed, same error as before and after I did a bios update for windows seven
Euth
well it may not be the PSU...on the spec page for that card...it says 300W minimum...which you have a 450..back to the drawing board so to speak...
Jahova
Wow I just typed a nice long paragraph and it didnt post or save...Pulled GPU out, computer is fine. I have been told that 450 isnt enough to run the graphics card along with the quad core, and that if I plan on doing anything else, that I should invest in at least a 650w. A guy who has practically the same setup, had to switch out his 450w psu in order to allow his GPU to run without causing a BIOS crash. I'm estimating that we should probably get a 650+w PSU in order to run this machine. (also we'll be adding 2gb more ram, another hdd, and possibly a blueray player, along with HD audio card, and for some reason my dad wants to buy a better ethernet card.)Still, for $300 this barebones is amazing haha. Goofy
you sure it isn't the card that is buggy? do you have a different card to try it out on from what I read 450w is more then enough since the 9400gt only draws 138watts at full load, but more psu wattage is always a good thing though
Angelz
I don't think it's a PSU problem either.Try running a memory test - http://www.memtest86.com/Maybe try and reset the BIOS to load defaults and clear CMOS.Maybe try different drivers.More memory might help. Jahova
I've tried all related drivers, and the only time that error shows up is during times where it uses a lot of the gpu to do something with good graphics.I've also reloaded the bios twice, and reset the cmos, and tweaked bios, and it still only happens throught the 9400... I guess it could be a faulty card
Goofy
try a different card if you have one or try the card in another machine see if the same thing happens, did you check in computer forums as well? here is a good one to check http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/index.php
Jahova
So far the only thing that I can come up with from everything I've been looking into is a more powerful psu. My dad ordered a new one so hopefully everything works fine when it gets here. Ill let you guys know if its working or not
